Long time no blog!

Boy, I really do feel like I’ve been running myself pretty ragged lately. Between my job, the comic, and all sorts of things going on in-between, both good and bad, I feel like I haven’t really had any spare time to do a lot that isn’t basic updates. I sat down and sketched a little for the first time in a while the other day, and it felt pretty great! I really have to start refocusing.

I realized I never really took the chance to say anything about SPX! Anyway, it was a great show, and I had a really fantastic time running around and being totally up to my neck in comics. I got to talk to some creators I really admire, and I picked up some really fantastic work! I was really excited to get the book collections of Rice Boy and the first volume of Order of Tales, which was especially exciting because I had no idea Evan Dahm was going to be at the show. I also got to pick up the one Finder book I was missing from Carla Speed McNeil and ohhh my gosh, an original page from her book Dream Sequence! I’m so psyched, but at the same time as I left the show I was kind of kicking myself for not looking harder for a page from my favorite book of hers, Talisman!

I picked up a copy of Life Meter 3 at the show too, where my friend Jon Griffiths and I had some short video game comics. It was really flattering to be in a book with a million other super-talented comics artists, and the whole book looks fantastic! (I did a two page Final Fantasy 7 comic, if you’re wondering) Whenever the book goes for sale online I’m going to post a link!

Otherwise, lately I’ve just been busy busy busy and either reading The Art of Osamu Tezuka or playing Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. I hate Organization XIII, but I love multiplayer!

I’m hoping to do some tidying up on the site soon, but I have a couple of other little things I want to work on first. Expect more coming soon, though! :) I missed Halloween for a special picture, but I’m sure not gonna miss Christmas!

Oh, if only I could update the blog part of the site half as often as I updated the comic! I just feel like if I don’t have anything related to say, I won’t really bother.

It’s been pretty busy for me lately, though! I started a full-time job about three weeks ago, but I’ve been working hard to make sure it impacts the comic’s updates as little as possible. It’s a shame to lose all that time putzing around, but it’s also great that I can actually pay for things now, AND I can do more with the comic! Now that Ch. 2 is finished, I’ll be getting it printed up as a minicomic, as well as getting more copies made of Ch. 1. Hopefully I’ll have both available this month at SPX, but I haven’t completely finished planning what’s going on for that con. Another thing I’m considering doing is getting some postcards made up as giveaways, so make sure to look for those at anime cons on the east coast in the future!

Luckily also, a job means that I have the means to pick up some comics I’d been putting off buying for a while. Now it’s just going to be a matter of finding time to read them!

I DID specifically make time to read the latest volume of Pluto, by Naoki Urasawa. Urasawa is currently my favorite artist, and Pluto is a remake of the classic Astro Boy story “The Greatest Robot on Earth.” Volume 4 came out about a month ago, and things are getting really intense in the story! I’ve been looking to Urasawa a lot for storytelling inspiration- I actually did a writeup on some techniques he uses on my just-as-infrequently-updated Livejournal a while back. I picked up some other books I’m excited about, but I don’t feel right talking about them until I read them!
